The Streatham Hub Children’s Centre –
services under threat
Streatham's Green Party councillors are fighting to save The Streatham Hub Children’s
Centre from drastic cuts planned by Lambeth Council.
More
than 900 families will lose vital drop-in services at this well-used centre
that offers opportunities for parents and children to play, socialise and get
access to family, educational and work advice and to health care.
Green Party councillors have launched a petition to convince Labour-led
Lambeth Council to change its plans to close five centres and drastically reduce services at
seven others.
Greens say all 23 children’s centres could remain open and fully
operational if the council increased its reserves at a lower rate than planned.
Cllr
Nicole Griffiths said: “These cuts are not needed and
are a false economy. Research shows that investment in the early years of
childhood can prevent bigger problems later in life. Our families need all the
services offered at The Streatham Hub to stay open.”
