Planned £8.6m improvements to A23 Streatham Hill come a step nearer

Plans to spend £8.6 million on a re-design of the A23 through Streatham Hill will go to public consultation in September this year, Transport for London (TfL) told Streatham Action's transport group this week.

TfL has now completed computer modelling of its proposed scheme, which is aimed at reducing speeds, improving safety and creating a more 'town centre' feel to what is currently more like an urban motorway.

Streatham stations to receive £140,000 for passenger benefits

Streatham's three rail stations are in line to receive £140,000 from a Passenger Benefit Fund set up by Govia Thameslink following the disruption to rail services in summer 2018 during the introduction of timetable changes.

Over the next few months local people can contribute suggestions to how money should be spent to make tangible improvements for passengers. Streatham is to receive £80,000 with Streatham Hill and Streatham Common each in line for £30,000.


A priority for Streatham must be work to improve acccibility to the platforms - which can currently only be reached by stairs.

This is not currently on the list of suggestions which include:

• fitting solar panels to stations
• environmental options such as 'living plant wall' or 'bee garden'
• toilet improvements
• extra seating
• extra vending machines
• extra cycle parking and security
• extra customer information screens

Streatham station to be made accessible - but possibly not until 2024

After many years of delays, promised work to make Streatham Station fully accessible to wheelchairs, bikes and buggies is to go ahead - possibly by September 2021 but may not be until March 2024!

The government announced Streatham is to be one of 73 stations to receive "Access for All" funding - 14 years after the scheme was first launched in 2005.

Streatham Hub's future uncertain as council votes to close children's centres

Green Party councillors are continuing to fight for the future of Streatham Hub children's centre as Labour-controlled Lambeth Council decided this week to go ahead with the closure of five of its 23 children's centres and drastic cuts to services in seven others.

The future of Streatham Hub, which is next to Tescos and Streatham Leisure Centre, is uncertain with a further consultation on early years provision in the Streatham area continuing until June 3rd.

Applications open for street parties, Play Streets and Car-Free Day

More Heathrow flight paths planned over Streatham - consultation deadline 4 March

Streatham: 47 flights per hour at less than 4,000ft

Aircraft noise over Streatham is set to increase significantly under plans for Heathrow Airport expansion. 

Currently less than 1 in 20 of Heathrow's aircraft movements affects Streatham - but this is set to increase to 1 in 12, with nearly 50 flights an hour flying over us at 3,000-4,000ft.

Here are suggested responses to the online Heathrow Consultation, which is very complicated with lots of supporting documentation. Hopefully, this will make it easier for Streatham's views to be heard.

Scott takes action on state of Streatham Green

Green Party councillor Scott Ainslie brought together local businesses, residents, police and council officers for a summit to address anti-social behaviour and the poor state of Streatham Green. 

Already, Graffiti has been removed, weeding and cleaning taken place, with work planned to improve lighting, policing and the environment.

A further meeting is to be held shortly to come up with proposals improve the state of Streatham Green for the longer term.
